2018 Second Extraordinary Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 1 BY SENATOR LONG AND REPRESENTATI VE HAZEL A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend Lyn Rollins upon being awarded the Distinguished Service Award in Sports Journalism by the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame is dedicated to the history of sports in Louisiana, including the achievements of over three hundred Louisiana athletes, coaches, and other sports figures; and WHEREAS, for more than a half-century the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame has recognized outstanding achievements in sports and sports journalism; and WHEREAS, Lyn Rollins has forty-four years and counting as a professional sports broadcaster in Louisiana; and WHEREAS, he is a 1973 Northwestern State University graduate and earned a master's degree in journalism from Louisiana State University; and WHEREAS, Lyn worked in public relations at Louisiana College and also in the private sector, winning multiple Addy Awards for advertising and marketing production and campaigns; and WHEREAS, he was the Demon Sports Network play-by-play man from 1993 to 2003, and has also called games for Grambling State University and the Alexandria Aces minor league baseball team; and WHEREAS, Lyn has also been a Cox Sports Television play-by-play voice since 2003, as well as the primary play-by-play man for Jumbo Sports' groundbreaking telecasts of LSU baseball and other state school athletics, beginning with LSU coverage in 1994 and continuing spot duty to this day; and WHEREAS, he has done state high school game-of-the-week telecasts, hundreds of high school football radio broadcasts, and has called a range of sports including soccer, gymnastics, softball, and volleyball, primarily for coverage of LSU sports on various networks; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 1 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Lyn is believed to have called more televised college baseball games than any other announcer in the country; and WHEREAS, he was a protégée of Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame member and 2010 Distinguished Service Award winner Norm Fletcher and succeeded Fletcher as the Voice of the Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, Lyn has risen to the highest levels in his profession, and has become widely admired and respected in broadcasting and other endeavors; and WHEREAS, he has been named four times as the Louisiana Sportscaster of the Year, an award voted on by his peers in the state; and WHEREAS, for 2018, Lyn Rollins has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award in Sports Journalism by the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, an award he richly deserves for his long and distinguished career in sports journalism. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Lyn Rollins upon being awarded the Distinguished Service Award in Sports Journalism by the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
