SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 14

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend Larry Wright on being named to the 2018 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
WHEREAS, Larry Wright began his career as a superior athlete at Richwood of
Monroe and Western High School in the Washington, D.C., metro area where he was
designated as a prep All American; and
WHEREAS, Larry Wright elevated his athletic standing being named a two-time
NCAA Small College All American at Grambling University; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wright, after earning the award of SWAC Player of the Year as a
junior, declared for the NBA draft and was a first-round draft pick of Washington; and 
WHEREAS, while playing in the NBA for six seasons, he helped the great Elvin
Hayes and the Bullets win the 1978 championship; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wright continually demonstrated his amazing athleticism during
his career as an NBA player by scoring two thousand four hundred eighty-nine points in two
hundred ninety-seven games, averaging between nine point three and seven point three
points a game each season; and 
WHEREAS, after playing for one season for Detroit, Mr. Wright played basketball
in Europe where, yet again, his skill led his team to the European title; and
WHEREAS, Larry Wright took his skills and talent to a different level as a scout for
Seattle, Washington, and New Jersey, and then as a head coach for Grambling State, his
beloved alma mater; and
WHEREAS, as an outstanding player on the court and a superior leader off the court,
Mr. Wright has rightfully earned his induction into the 2018 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Larry Wright for his induction into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
