SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 27
BY SENATORS CARTER, APPEL, BISHOP, HEWITT, MORRELL AND PETERSON 
COMMENDAT IONS.  Commends posthumously Antoine "Fats" Domino and expresses
condolences to his family.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend posthumously Antoine "Fats" Domino and to express condolences to his
3 family.
4 WHEREAS, it is fitting to recognize and record for posterity the extraordinary
5 achievements and contributions of Fats Domino of New Orleans, who died on Tuesday,
6 October 24, 2017, at the age of eighty-nine; and
7 WHEREAS, a lifelong New Orleanian, Fats Domino had a long and remarkable
8 career as a popular musician; he dominated pop and R&B charts from 1949 until the early
9 1960s; and
10 WHEREAS, Antoine Dominique Domino Jr., was born in the Lower Ninth Ward on
11 February 26, 1928, to Antoine Domino Sr. and Donatile Gros Domino; he was the youngest
12 of eight children; and
13 WHEREAS, at an early age, he had an affinity for playing the piano; his unique
14 piano style and voice would later appeal to audiences all over the world; and
15 WHEREAS, Fats Domino was married to Rosemary Hall from 1947 until the time
16 of her death in 2008, and together they had eight children; and
17 WHEREAS, his first record, "The Fat Man" was the first rock and roll record to sell
18 over one million copies, and was the beginning of a host of hits to follow, including

1 "Blueberry Hill", "I'm Walking", "Ain't That a Shame", and "I'm Walking to New Orleans";
2 and
3 WHEREAS, Fats Domino's career spanned more than five decades and he produced
4 over twenty-five gold singles and sold over sixty-five million records; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. Domino was recognized with numerous honors and awards; in
6 1986, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; the following year, he was
7 honored with the Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award; President Clinton
8 awarded him the National Medal of Arts in 1998, and in 2004, Rolling Stone magazine
9 ranked him number twenty-five in its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time"; and
10 WHEREAS, in spite of his success and many accolades, Fats was always a very
11 humble man with a smile that lit up a room; and
12 WHEREAS, Antoine "Fats" Domino is survived by his children, Anatole, Antonio,
13 and Adonica Domino, Antoinette Smith, Anola Hartzog, and Andrea Brimmer; numerous
14 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
16 does hereby commend posthumously Antoine "Fats" Domino and express condolences to
17 his family; does hereby recognize his extraordinary musical gifts and talents; does hereby
18 extend appreciation for his enduring legacy that will continue to be a source of great pride
19 and honor for his family and friends, the city of New Orleans, and the state of Louisiana; and
20 does hereby extend thoughts and prayers for peace and comfort.
21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
22 family of Antoine "Fats" Domino.
