HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 11

COMMENDATIONS: Commends Leon Dixon, Sr., upon his one hundredth birthday
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Leon Dixon, Sr. upon the occasion of his one hundredth birthday.
3 WHEREAS, membership in the centenarians club is extremely rare, and much honor
4is due to those who reach this milestone; and
5 WHEREAS, on July 27, 2018, Leon Dixon, Sr., will join this exclusive club; Leon
6was born in Batchelor, Louisiana, as one of seven children of Napoleon and Ida Green
7Dixon; and
8 WHEREAS, as a young man, Leon joined the United States Army and served this
9country with distinction throughout World War II; he became a searchlight commander in
10the artillery division, directing five men in scanning the night sky for enemy aircraft; and
11 WHEREAS, over the course of the war, he served in Africa, Italy, France, Germany,
12and Corsica under the command of General Patton; military honors earned by Mr. Dixon
13include three Battle Stars; and
14 WHEREAS, in 1948 Leon Dixon married the former Miss Sedonia Richard, and the
15young couple started a home on Moringside Street in New Roads; in the succeeding years,
16the Dixon family grew to include nine children as well as grandchildren and great-
17grandchildren; the Dixons were married for forty-six years until the passing of Mrs. Dixon;
18and
19 WHEREAS, at one hundred years old, Leon Dixon, Sr., continues to enjoy good
20health, thanks in part, no doubt, to the support and blessings of the family that he so lovingly
21nurtured, and he remains an active member of Mount Mariah Baptist Church; and

1 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Leon Dixon, Sr., on the momentous
2occasion of his one hundredth birthday.
3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
4Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Leon Dixon, Sr., upon the occasion of his
5one hundredth birthday; does hereby add its hearty congratulations to the celebration of a
6full and rich life; and does hereby wish him full measures of health and many happy days
7ahead.
8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
9to Leon Dixon, Sr.
