Broussard 1 A RESOLUTION 2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Weston J. 3 Broussard. 4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the 5Louisiana House of Representatives have learned of the death of Weston J. Broussard on 6June 14, 2018, at the age of eighty-two; and 7 WHEREAS, Mr. Broussard was a native of Maurice and grew up in Biloxi; he spent 8the majority of his life in Lafayette where he met and married Mildred Menard in 1954; and 9 WHEREAS, he retired after many years of dedicated service to the Louisiana 10Department of Education and Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court; Mr. Broussard was elected 11justice of the peace, an office in which he served for twenty-four years; his service included 12starting the Lafayette chapter of the Louisiana Justice of the Peace and Constables 13Association; and 14 WHEREAS, a devout Catholic, Mr. Broussard was a lector and catechism teacher 15at his church in Maurice, and he was a founding member of the Acadiana Right to Life 16Committee, a chapter of Louisiana Right to Life; and 17 WHEREAS, Mr. Broussard's honors include the Louisiana Outstanding Justice of the 18Peace Award in 1999, the Judice Civitan award, being crowned the 2000 Scott Business 19Association Mardi Gras King, and in 2001, being inducted into the Louisiana Boxing Hall 20of Fame for his work as a trainer; and Page 1 of 2 HLS 183ES-30 ORIGINAL HR NO. 12 1 WHEREAS, family and friends knew him best for organizing family reunions and 2events that always included great food and good company; he was a skilled storyteller and 3enjoyed making people laugh; he was also an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed 4watching his beloved New Orleans Saints and Notre Dame Fighting Irish; and 5 WHEREAS, Weston J. Broussard is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, 6Mildred Menard Broussard; sons, Dwight Broussard, and his wife Audrey, and Gregory 7Broussard, and his wife Jennifer; daughters, Donna Broussard and Antoinette "Toni" 8Luquette, and her husband Bane; sisters, Thelma Roberts, Deanna Bourliea, and Lenora 9Touchet; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and 10 WHEREAS, with the death of Weston J. Broussard, Louisiana has lost one of her 11finest citizens, a gentleman of many gifts and talents who has left an indelible mark on the 12lives of those he touched. 13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 14Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express condolences upon the death of Weston J. 15Broussard; does hereby record for posterity his notable accomplishments and singular 16contributions to the Lafayette community; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for 17the pride and honor this extraordinary man will forever bring to his family and friends and 18the state of Louisiana. 19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 20to the family of Weston J.
