HLS 183ES-3 ORIGINAL 2018 Third Extraordinary Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2 BY REPRESENTATIVES SHADOIN AND JEFFERSON CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences on the death of former Ruston city marshal Mike Hilton 1 A RESOLUTION 2To express the condolences of the Louisiana House of Representatives upon the death of 3 former Ruston city marshal Mike Hilton. 4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the 5Louisiana House of Representatives have learned of the death of Mike Hilton on June 1, 62018, at the age of seventy-two; and 7 WHEREAS, Mike Hilton began his career with the Ruston police department at the 8age of twenty-one and later worked as a deputy with the Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Office; in 91981, he was elected marshal of the city of Ruston, and he remained in that office for thirty- 10three years; and 11 WHEREAS, Mr. Hilton served his community with consummate professionalism and 12was a leader and mentor to many; after forty-seven years in law enforcement, Mr. Hilton 13retired in 2014 to spend time with his family and friends and continue his devotion and walk 14with Christ as a member of First Baptist Church of Ruston; and 15 WHEREAS, Mr. Hilton was a skilled firearms instructor; he and his wife entered 16pistol competitions for many years, both winning first place trophies and prized pistols; and 17 WHEREAS, Mr. Hilton was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed spending days out 18on the open road; he reveled in scenic trips to Arkansas, long-distance rides across the 19country, and spending summers camping and riding with his grandson; and 20 WHEREAS, Mike Hilton is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Diane Bullock 21Hilton; sons, Michael Lea Hilton, and his wife Maria, Robert Russell Hilton, and his wife Page 1 of 2 HLS 183ES-3 ORIGINAL HR NO. 2 1Sibyl, Kenneth David Hilton, and his wife Diane; brother, Thomas Harold Hilton, and his 2wife Bette; sister Frances Fish; grandchildren, Marcus Murray, Nick, Diana, Antonio, and 3Marion Hilton, and Lauren Kate Harvey; his beloved dog, Boudreaux; and a host of nieces, 4nephews, relatives, and friends; and 5 WHEREAS, retired city marshal Mike Hilton was held in high esteem by all who 6worked with him; he will be greatly missed by the residents of Lincoln Parish, and with his 7passing, Louisiana bids farewell to one of her finest sons. 8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 9Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend sincerest condolences upon the death of former 10Ruston city marshal, Mike Hilton, and does hereby extend appreciation for his enduring 11legacy that will forever be a source of great pride and honor for his family, friends, and 12former colleagues, the city of Ruston, Lincoln Parish, and the state of Louisiana. 13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 14to the family of Mike Hilton.
