HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 9

CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences upon the death of Beatrice Jefferson Hill
1	A RESOLUTION
2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Beatrice
3 Jefferson Hill, the grandmother of State Representative Patrick O. Jefferson.
4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
5Louisiana House of Representatives have learned of the death of Beatrice Jefferson Hill on
6June 3, 2018, after a full life of almost ninety-two years; and
7 WHEREAS, Beatrice Jefferson Hill of Arcadia was born on June 26, 1926, in
8Claiborne Parish to Floyd Jefferson and Estella Gilbert, as the first of seven children; and
9 WHEREAS, Bea was a true matriarch; she was the mother of three children, a proud
10grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother; she had an intense and
11unconditional love for her family;  and
12 WHEREAS, after Bea served as a domestic engineer for several families, she was
13a producing agent for Memorial Life Insurance Company for twenty-five years; thereafter,
14she worked for and retired from ConAgra; and 
15 WHEREAS, in her leisure time, she enjoyed cooking and baking; Bea was renowned
16for her culinary skills, and was especially well-known for her pies; she often opened up her
17kitchen to ministers, gospel groups, colleagues, neighbors, friends, and other members of the
18community; and
19 WHEREAS, she was a lifelong member of Holland Grove Baptist Church, where she 
20distinguished herself as an exemplary and admired member, an usher, and a church mother;

1 WHEREAS, a mantel that only she could carry, she played an intricate role in raising
2her grandson, State Representative Patrick O. Jefferson; her teachings, the sacrifices she
3made, and the knowledge she instilled in her children and grandchildren gave them the
4foundation to achieve great feats and to meaningfully contribute to Arcadia and the state of
5Louisiana; and
6 WHEREAS, although the death of Beatrice Jefferson Hill has left a tremendous void
7in her family and community, her legacy shall forever live in the hearts and minds of all the
8people whose lives she touched; and
9 WHEREAS, Beatrice Jefferson Hill is survived by her daughters, Louria, Arletha,
10and Mary, and her husband Edward; grandchildren, Patrick, and his wife Stephanie,
11Chandrica, and her husband Tommy, Christopher, James, and Jeremy; great-grandchildren,
12Erin, Krystal, Tyler, Madison, and Jalyssa; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert,
13and his wife Dottie, Elroy, and his wife Gwen, and Nathan; sisters, Alberta, Rosia, Sharon,
14and Patrice; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.  
15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
16Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the
17death of Beatrice Jefferson Hill and does hereby offer best hopes and prayers for peace and
18comfort to those who mourn the loss of this fine daughter of the Arcadia community and the
19state of Louisiana.
20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
21to the family of Beatrice Jefferson Hill.
