A RESOLUTION
To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Beatrice
Jefferson Hill, the grandmother of State Representative Patrick O. Jefferson.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
Louisiana House of Representatives have learned of the death of Beatrice Jefferson Hill on
June 3, 2018, after a full life of almost ninety-two years; and
WHEREAS, Beatrice Jefferson Hill of Arcadia was born on June 26, 1926, in
Claiborne Parish to Floyd Jefferson and Estella Gilbert, as the first of seven children; and
WHEREAS, Bea was a true matriarch; she was the mother of three children, a proud
grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother; she had an intense and
unconditional love for her family;  and
WHEREAS, after Bea served as a domestic engineer for several families, she was
a producing agent for Memorial Life Insurance Company for twenty-five years; thereafter,
she worked for and retired from ConAgra; and 
WHEREAS, in her leisure time, she enjoyed cooking and baking; Bea was renowned
for her culinary skills, and was especially well-known for her pies; she often opened up her

kitchen to ministers, gospel groups, colleagues, neighbors, friends, and other members of the
community; and
WHEREAS, she was a lifelong member of Holland Grove Baptist Church, where she 
distinguished herself as an exemplary and admired member, an usher, and a church mother;
and
WHEREAS, a mantel that only she could carry, she played an intricate role in raising
her grandson, State Representative Patrick O. Jefferson; her teachings, the sacrifices she
made, and the knowledge she instilled in her children and grandchildren gave them the
foundation to achieve great feats and to meaningfully contribute to Arcadia and the state of
Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, although the death of Beatrice Jefferson Hill has left a tremendous void
in her family and community, her legacy shall forever live in the hearts and minds of all the
people whose lives she touched; and
WHEREAS, Beatrice Jefferson Hill is survived by her daughters, Louria, Arletha,
and Mary, and her husband Edward; grandchildren, Patrick, and his wife Stephanie,
Chandrica, and her husband Tommy, Christopher, James, and Jeremy; great-grandchildren,
Erin, Krystal, Tyler, Madison, and Jalyssa; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert,
and his wife Dottie, Elroy, and his wife Gwen, and Nathan; sisters, Alberta, Rosia, Sharon,
and Patrice; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.  
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the
death of Beatrice Jefferson Hill and does hereby offer best hopes and prayers for peace and
comfort to those who mourn the loss of this fine daughter of the Arcadia community and the
state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the family of Beatrice Jefferson Hill.
