SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 15
BY SENATOR MILKOVICH 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Lauren Vizza, television morning news anchor at KTAL
Channel 6 in Shreveport, Louisiana, on being named Miss Louisiana USA 2018.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Lauren Vizza, television morning news anchor on Channel 6 in Shreveport,
3 Louisiana, on being named Miss Louisiana USA 2018.
4 WHEREAS, Lauren Vizza is a Shreveport, Louisiana, native and a 2009 graduate of
5 Caddo Magnet High School who attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana;
6 and
7 WHEREAS, Ms. Vizza chose to attend Louisiana Tech University and concentrate
8 on her studies and play soccer, a dream that was ended when she suffered a knee injury,
9 causing her to look to other avenues of involvement; and
10 WHEREAS, while a student at Tech, Lauren Vizza was a member of Sigma Kappa
11 social sorority and served as the vice president of philanthropy; it was in this role that Lauren
12 encouraged her fellow students to become more involved in service opportunities beyond
13 campus; and Lauren helped found the "Mr. Tech" pageant, which is an official Children's
14 Miracle Network fundraiser, and the pageant continues in its fifth year to benefit that
15 nonprofit; and
16 WHEREAS, vowing at the beginning of her college career to accept every
17 opportunity that came to her, Lauren Vizza participated in the Miss Tech contest and, in
18 2012, she was named Miss Louisiana, she competed in the Miss America pageant, and she

1 took a year off from her college studies to serve as a hostess for the state and to travel around
2 Louisiana as spokesperson for prominent Louisiana organizations; and
3 WHEREAS, Ms. Vizza says that her involvement in that pageant and her success as
4 Miss Louisiana transformed her from "this nineteen year-old-girl that wasn't really sure of
5 life to being an independent, female warrior woman," a description of herself that Lauren
6 readily accepts and of which she is appropriately proud; and 
7 WHEREAS, after graduation from Louisiana Tech with bachelor of art's degree in
8 political science and history, Lauren continued to pursue success in the Miss Louisiana USA
9 competition, which she entered five times, acknowledging she entered this year knowing she
10 would not compete for this title again; and
11 WHEREAS, as a lovely, intelligent, and self-confident twenty-seven-year old,
12 Lauren Vizza accomplished the long-elusive goal and was named Miss Louisiana USA for
13 2018, allowing her to continue to further compete in the Miss USA contest; and
14 WHEREAS, beginning in 2016, Lauren Vizza has served as the television morning
15 news anchor for KTAL Channel 6, the National Broadcasting Corporation affiliate in the
16 Shreveport and Bossier City, Louisiana, area, and she is enjoying her involvement in
17 bringing the news to the people of the northwestern area of Louisiana; and 
18 WHEREAS, Ms. Vizza has maintained her commitment to the Children's Miracle
19 Network, the March of Dimes, and the Louisiana Governor's Council on Physical Fitness
20 and Health, as well as other worthwhile endeavors; and
21 WHEREAS, Ms. Vizza continues to garner awards, and not all on the pageant stage;
22 this year she has been named a Forty under Forty honoree, she remains active in her sorority
23 alumni group, and she is a provisional member of the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier;
24 and
25 WHEREAS, Lauren Vizza is an intelligent, beautiful, and accomplished young
26 woman who has continually sought experiences beyond her beloved Shreveport-Bossier City
27 area of Louisiana, broadening her view and understanding, who has brought honor to her
28 state in the manner in which she has represented the state, and she remains grounded in her
29 community, particularly through her work with area nonprofit organizations.
30 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana

1 does hereby commend Lauren Vizza, television morning news anchor on Channel 6 in
2 Shreveport, Louisiana, on being named Miss Louisiana USA 2018.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
4 Lauren Vizza.
