Expresses sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Pervis "Pee Wee" Meaux, World War II veteran and Vermilion Parish police juror. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the 3 death of Pervis "Pee Wee" Meaux, World War II veteran and Vermilion Parish 4 police juror, and to remember his many contributions made on behalf of his 5 community, state, and country. 6 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana has 7 learned of the passing of an extraordinary member of the Greatest Generation, Pervis "Pee 8 Wee" Meaux, at age ninety-three, who passed peacefully at his residence on June 6, 2018; 9 and 10 WHEREAS, a native and resident of Abbeville, Louisiana, Pervis Meaux was born 11 on August 27, 1924, to Whitney and Lucille Mouton Meaux; and 12 WHEREAS, at a very early age, he served as a seaman with the Merchant Marines, 13 but as he attained the age of eighteen, he volunteered to serve his country in the United 14 States Army as a mechanic on one of the famed Higgins boats LCM (landing craft 15 mechanical) in the south Pacific, where he lived, worked, and fought in unpleasant 16 conditions during WWII in places such as Borneo and New Guinea, in the name of freedom, 17 duty, honor, and country; and 18 WHEREAS, Pervis "Pee Wee" Meaux's character was strengthened by the Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 3 SLS 183ES-15 ORIGINAL 1 experience of war, and upon his return to Louisiana, the place that he loved, he resolved to 2 get on with living, to grow, thrive, make a good life for himself, and to be blessed with a 3 family; and 4 WHEREAS, he married Rosalie Richard and they started Pee Wee's Pest Control in 5 Abbeville; and 6 WHEREAS, Pee Wee Meaux was elected to serve the Vermilion Parish community 7 as a police juror and was re-elected to serve several terms; and 8 WHEREAS, he and his wife, Rose, were so proud of their son, Fr. Glenn, who 9 founded and today continues to serve the Catholic Mission in Haiti; and 10 WHEREAS, after fifty-three years, he lost his wife, Rose, to cancer; he then married 11 Ophelia "Fee" Miguez-Meaux and grew to know her family as his own; they were married 12 fourteen years before her death in April 2018; and 13 WHEREAS, he loved and spent much time with his grandchildren; and 14 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie Richard Meaux, and his 15 wife, Ophelia "Fee" Miguez-Meaux; and his parents; and 16 WHEREAS, he is survived by his sister, Laura Meaux Carret; children, the Reverend 17 Glenn Marshall Meaux, and Ginger Meaux Mathy and her husband, Mike; his grandchildren 18 Sam Mathy and Hannah Mathy; stepchildren, Larry Miguez and his wife, Katrina; Marsha 19 Langley and her husband, Leon; Kent Miguez and his wife, Lorene; Steve Miguez and his 20 wife, Tamra; and his stepchildren's families; and 21 WHEREAS, Pervis "Pee Wee" Meaux was a quiet man, very small in stature but 22 huge in heart, who cared deeply about those he knew and did all he could to make their lives 23 a little easier; he spent his life being of service to his family, friends, neighbors, community, 24 and country; he will be greatly missed; and his legacy will continue. 25 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 26 does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Pervis "Pee Wee" 27 Meaux, World War II veteran and Vermilion Parish police juror. 28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does 29 hereby posthumously recognize the military service of Pervis "Pee Wee" Meaux in the 30 United States Army as a veteran of World War II in the Pacific Theater and for his Page 2 of 3 SR NO. 3 SLS 183ES-15 ORIGINAL 1 meritorious contributions to the freedom of all citizens of the United States, which shall not 2 be forgotten, and that this acknowledgment reflects his unselfish sacrifice to duty, honor, and 3 country. 4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 5 family of Pervis "Pee Wee" Meaux.
