Commends Chris Barron for being selected as a candidate to represent Louisiana at the HOBY World Leadership Congress. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend Chris Barron for being selected as a candidate to represent Louisiana at the 3 HOBY World Leadership Congress to be held on July 21-28, 2018, at Loyola 4 University, Chicago, Illinois. 5 WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership program was established 6 in 1958 by the popular Hollywood movie actor Hugh O'Brian after he was inspired by 7 spending nine days in Africa with Dr. Albert Schweitzer; and 8 WHEREAS, following the visit with Dr. Schweitzer, Hugh O'Brian returned to Los 9 Angeles and created an international organization designed to encourage young people to 10 take a leadership role in society and become catalysts for change; and 11 WHEREAS, Chris Barron, a student at Northshore High School, son of Cylinda and 12 Charlie Barron, attended the 2018 Louisiana Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar; and 13 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership program hosted 14 140 high school sophomores who represented their respective high schools throughout the 15 state; and 16 WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) World Leadership Congress is held 17 every year and brings together over 400 young leaders from the United States, Puerto Rico, 18 and 11 other countries for a weeklong intensive educational leadership conference; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 30 SLS 183ES-93 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, the purpose of the World Leadership Congress is to provide young 2 HOBY leaders with an opportunity to learn firsthand about other cultures and opinions, form 3 friendships, exchange ideas in an environment where they can feel comfortable in open 4 discussion with their peers, and learn to voice how they have shaped and formed their own 5 views about the role of leadership in society; and 6 WHEREAS, Hugh O'Brian believed the most important thing in education is to teach 7 young people to think for themselves, and the more than 475,000 HOBY alumni demonstrate 8 how this belief has influenced and inspired young people to become more involved in their 9 communities. 10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 11 does hereby commend and congratulate Chris Barron upon his selection as a candidate to 12 represent Louisiana at the 2018 Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress in Chicago, 13 Illinois, and does hereby recognize the pride and honor that this wonderful young leader 14 brings to his family, friends, school, community, and state. 15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 16 Mr. Chris Barron and Frank Jabbia, principal of Northshore High School.
