SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 34

COMMENDATIONS.  Commends the Benton Elementary School Archery Team on
winning the championship in the Bullseye and 3-D Challenge divisions of the National
Archery in Schools Program World Tournament.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend and congratulate the Benton Elementary School Archery Team on winning the
3 championship in the Bullseye and 3-D Challenge divisions of the National Archery
4 in Schools Program World Tournament.
5 WHEREAS, a total of six schools represented Louisiana at the National Archery in
6 Schools Program (NASP) World Tournament held in Louisville, Kentucky, on June 7-9,
7 through the Archery in Louisiana Schools (ALAS) program, administered through the
8 Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries; and 
9 WHEREAS, Benton Elementary compiled a score of 3,317 to win the title as Hannah
10 McKenzie led Benton Elementary, finishing fifth individually in elementary girls with a
11 score of 284 with teammates Emerson Fite ninth (282), and Anna Young tenth (280), as a
12 total of 616 girls competed in the elementary division; and
13 WHEREAS, in the NASP International Bowhunting Organization (IBO) 3-D
14 Challenge, Benton Elementary's first place team consisted of three top ten shooters
15 contributing to their score of 1,645 with Anna Young finishing second out of 171 elementary
16 girls with a score of 282 as Mason Hicks shot a 278 with 15 bullseyes placing him ninth out
17 of 204 elementary boys, and Tyler Pope's score of 278 with 12 bullseyes was good enough
18 for a top ten finish; and

1 WHEREAS, the world tournament provides an opportunity for students not only in
2 the United States but also other countries to come together to share the commonality and
3 enthusiasm for the sport of archery as countries invited to the event included Canada,
4 Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Mongolia, British Virgin Islands, South Africa,
5 Botswana, Namibia, and Zambia; and 
6 WHEREAS, NASP is designed for student archers in grades four through twelve and
7 has two specific goals: to improve student motivation, behavior, attendance, and focus in
8 relation to education while seeking to encourage students to spend more time in the outdoors
9 and to learn outdoor skills; and
10 WHEREAS, the ALAS program teaches NASP students as part of the in-school
11 curriculum and the program is available to all Louisiana schools, public and private. 
12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
13 does hereby commend and congratulate the Benton Elementary School Archery Team on
14 winning the championship in the Bullseye and 3-D Challenge divisions of the National
15 Archery in Schools Program World Tournament.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
17 Ms. Amy Gates, principal of Benton Elementary School.
