DISTRICTS/FIRE PROTECT:  Provides relative to the membership of the St. Landry Parish
Fire District No. 7 board of commissioners
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 40:1496(B)(5)(e), relative to the St. Landry Parish Fire District No. 7; to
3 provide for membership on its board of commissioners; and to provide for related
4 matters.
5	Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published
6	as provided by Article III, Section 13 of the Constitution of
7	Louisiana.
8Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
9 Section 1.  R.S. 40:1496(B)(5)(e) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
10 ยง1496.  Appointment of members of board; term; vacancies

12	B.  In the case of a district comprising all or part of a single parish,
13 members shall be appointed as follows:

17	(e)  The board of commissioners of St. Landry Parish Fire District No. 7 shall
18 consist of seven members.  The parish governing authority shall appoint the
19 additional members of the board and shall set the initial terms of the two additional
20 members.

Abstract:  Provides for changes to the board of commissioners of the St. Landry Parish Fire 
District No. 7.
Present law provides for the appointment of members to the boards of commissioners of fire
protection districts.  Generally provides that the board of commissioners shall consist of five
members; provides exceptions.
Present law provides that, in the case where one municipality is included within the
boundaries of a district lying within a single parish, members shall be appointed as follows:
(1)Two members shall be appointed by the parish governing authority.
(2)Two members shall be appointed by the governing authority of the municipality.
(3)One shall be selected by the other four members and shall serve as chairman of the
board.
Proposed law provides that the board of commissioners of St. Landry Parish Fire District
No. 7 shall consist of seven members.  Further provides that the governing authority of the
parish shall appoint the additional members and set the initial terms of the additional
members.
