ANIMALS:  Prohibits the transportation of live feral swine
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 14:102.28, relative to offenses affecting the public sensibility; to create the
3 crime of transporting live feral swine; to provide for definitions; to provide for
4 penalties; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 14:102.28 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
7 ยง102.28. Transporting live feral swine prohibited; penalties
8	A.  It shall be unlawful to transport live feral swine by any person not in
9 possession of proof of registration as a feral swine authorized transporter with the
10 Louisiana Board of Animal Health within the Department of Agriculture and
11 Forestry.
12	B.  For the purposes of this Section, "feral swine" shall mean any hog, pig,
13 or swine species, Sus scrofa, including, but not limited to, Russian and European
14 wild boar and their hybrids that are running at large, free roaming, or wild upon
15 public or private lands in this state, and shall also include any hog, pig, or swine
16 species that has lived any part of its life running at large, free roaming, or wild. The
17 term feral swine shall also include any feral phenotype swine, whether or not running
18 at large, free roaming, or wild.
19	C.  Whoever violates the provisions of this Section shall be fined not more
20 than nine hundred dollars, or imprisoned for not more than six months, or both.

Abstract: Creates the crime of transporting live feral swine.
Proposed law prohibits transporting live feral swine by any person not in possession of proof
of registration as a feral swine authorized transporter with the La. Board of Animal Health
within the Dept. of Agriculture and Forestry.
Proposed law  defines "feral swine" as any hog, pig, or swine species, Sus scrofa, including,
but not limited to, Russian and European wild boar and their hybrids that are running at
large, free roaming, or wild upon public or private lands in this state, and also includes any
hog, pig, or swine species that has lived any part of its life running at large, free roaming,
or wild.  Specifies that the term feral swine also includes any feral phenotype swine, whether
or not running at large, free roaming, or wild.
Proposed law provides for penalties of a fine not more than $900, or imprisonment for not
more than six months, or both.
