Existing law provides for DNA samples to be taken from the offender of a felony or any of
the following offenses: battery of a police officer; battery of a school teacher; battery of a
school or recreation athletic contest official; battery of a correctional facility employee;
simple battery; simple battery of a child welfare or adult protective service worker; simple
battery of persons with infirmities; aggravated assault; unlawful use of a laser on a police
officer; simple assault; assault on a school teacher; stalking; identity theft; misdemeanor
carnal knowledge of a juvenile; prohibited sexual conduct between educator and student;
prostitution; soliciting for prostitutes; inciting prostitution; prostitution by massage; massage,
sexual conduct prohibited; letting premises for prostitution; contributing to the delinquency
of juveniles; hate crimes; letting premises for obscenity; peeping tom; and inciting a riot.
New law adds to the existing law list the crimes of misdemeanor sexual battery, illegal
possession of a handgun by a juvenile, and illegal carrying of weapons.
Effective August 1, 2018.
