MTR VEHICLE/LICEN PLATES: Creates the "Louisiana Aviator" special prestige license
plate
1 AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 47:463.196, relative to motor vehicle special prestige plates; to provide for the
3 establishment of the "Louisiana Aviator" special prestige license plate; to provide for
4 creation, issuance, and design of such license plate; to provide for the fees for such
5 plates; to authorize the promulgation of rules and regulations relative to the creation
6 and implementation of a special prestige license plate; and to provide for related
7 matters.
8Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
9 Section 1. R.S. 47:463.196 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
10 ยง463.196. Special prestige license plate; "Louisiana Aviator"
11 A. The secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall
12 establish a special prestige motor vehicle license plate to be known as the "Louisiana
13 Aviator" plate, provided there is a minimum of one thousand applicants for such
14 plate. The plate shall be restricted to use on passenger cars, pickup trucks,
15 recreational vehicles, motorcycles, and vans.
16 B. The secretary shall work in conjunction with the Louisiana Aviators Club
17 to select the color and design of the plate, provided it is in compliance with R.S.
18 47:463(A)(3). The design shall include the words "Louisiana Aviator".
19 C. The special prestige license plate shall be issued, upon application, to any
20 citizen of Louisiana in the same manner as any other motor vehicle license plate.

1 D. The fee for this special prestige plate shall be the standard motor vehicle
2 license tax imposed by Article VII, Section 5 of the Constitution of Louisiana, and
3 a handling fee of three dollars and fifty cents for each plate to be retained by the
4 department to offset a portion of administrative costs.
5 E. The secretary shall promulgate and adopt rules and regulations as are
6 necessary to implement the provisions of this Section.

Abstract: Creates the "Louisiana Aviator" special prestige license plate. Provides for fees,
distribution of fees, issuance, creation, and design of the license plate and the
promulgation of rules.
Proposed law requires the secretary of the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections to issue
special prestige license plates to be known as the "Louisiana Aviator" license plate.
Proposed law provides for the secretary to work in conjunction with the Louisiana Aviators
Club to select the color and design of the plate. Requires the design include the words
"Louisiana Aviator".
Proposed law specifies that the license plate be issued, upon application, to any citizen of
La. in the same manner as any other motor vehicle license plate.
Proposed law requires the department to collect a handling fee of $3.50 for each plate, to be
retained by the department to offset a portion of the administrative costs.
Proposed law requires the secretary to promulgate and adopt rules and regulations to
implement the provisions provided in proposed law.
