MTR VEHICLE/DRIVER LIC:  Modifies requirements for obtaining a commercial driver's
license when an applicant is employed in a specific military position
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 32:408(A)(5)(b)(i), relative to certain military personnel
3 obtaining a commercial driver's license; to increase the time period of employment
4 in a specific military position permitted to waive the skills test required for a
5 commercial driver's license; and to provide for related matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 32:408(A)(5)(b)(i) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as
8follows:
9 ยง408.  Examination of applicants required; classes of licenses
10	A.

12	(5)  Notwithstanding any other provision to the contrary, the skills test
13 required for Classes "A", "B", and "C" commercial driver's licenses shall be waived
14 for an applicant who meets one of the following requirements:

16	(b)  Provides evidence and certifies that he is or was any of the following:
17	(i)  Regularly employed within the last ninety days twelve months in a
18 military position requiring operation of a commercial motor vehicle.

Abstract:  Increases the time period an applicant seeking a commercial driver's license must
be regularly employed in a military position requiring operation of a commercial
motor vehicle to waive the skills test required to obtain a commercial driver's license.
Present law allows an applicant regularly employed within the last 90 days in a military
position requiring operation of a commercial motor vehicle to waive the skills test required
to obtain a commercial driver's license.
Proposed law increases the time period an applicant must be regularly employed in a military
position requiring operation of a commercial motor vehicle to waive the skills test required
to obtain a commercial driver's license from 90 days to 12 months.
(Amends R.S. 32:408(A)(5)(b)(i))
