HB 371 Original	2018 Regular Session	Chaney
Abstract: Revises reporting procedure of child abuse and neglect in the La. Children's Code for
permitted and mandatory reporters.
Present law requires that permitted reporters report child abuse or neglect through the Dept. of
Children and Family Services (DCFS) reporting hotline.
Proposed law adds that permitted reporters shall report in person at any child welfare office or
immediately by phone to any state child welfare office.
Proposed law adds that mandatory reporters shall make a report through the designated state child
protection reporting hotline telephone number, via the DCFS Services Mandated Reporter Portal,
in person at any state child welfare office, or immediately by phone to any state child welfare office.
Proposed law adds child abuse or neglect reports by fax do not relieve reporters from their duty to
report by hotline, in person, or by phone.
