WATERWAYS/SCENIC RIVERS:  Exempts the Tickfaw River from certain restrictions
of the Natural and Scenic Rivers Program
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 56:1855(O), relative to the Louisiana Scenic Rivers Act; to
3 provide an exception for certain uses on the Tickfaw River; to provide terms,
4 conditions, and procedures; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 56:1855(O) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
7 ยง1855. Exceptions

9	O.  Notwithstanding other provisions of R.S. 56:1853, clearing and snagging,
10 and dredging operations conducted or contracted for by a political subdivision, the
11 state, or federal government for drainage purposes in the Amite River, Tangipahoa
12 River, Tickfaw River from the Louisiana-Mississippi state line to the I-12 crossing,
13 West Pearl River, Tchefuncte River, Bogue Falaya River, Abita River, and Comite
14 River shall be permitted by the department in accordance with the requirements and
15 procedures provided for in R.S. 56:1849.
16 Section 2.  This Act shall become effective on June 30, 2018.

Abstract:  Exempts the Tickfaw River from certain restrictions of the Natural and Scenic
Rivers program.
Present law authorizes clearing and snagging, and dredging operations conducted or
contracted for by a political subdivision, the state, or federal government for drainage
purposes in the Amite River, Tangipahoa River, West Pearl River, Tchefuncte River, Bogue
Falaya River, Abita River, and Comite River.  Requires permitting by the Dept. of Wildlife
and Fisheries under the Natural and Scenic Rivers Program.
Proposed law adds the Tickfaw River, from the Louisiana-Mississippi state line to the I-12
crossing, to the rivers eligible for clearing and snagging and dredging operations permitted
by the Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries.
Effective June 30, 2018.
