Existing law requires that upon seeking treatment for a sexually-oriented criminal offense,
a victim has the right to refuse to report the incident to law enforcement.
New law retains existing law.
Prior law required that a hospital or healthcare provider report a sexually-oriented criminal
offense to law enforcement if the victim is 16 years of age or younger.  New law increases
the age from 16 to 17.  
Effective August 1, 2018.
