RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 553 (HB 493) 2018 Regular Session Gary Carter Existing law provides that laws providing for a new or increased court cost or fee shall only be enacted if they are first submitted to the council for review and recommendation to the legislature as to whether the court cost or fee is reasonably related to the operation of the courts or court system. New law requires that the review and recommendation include factors such as whether the court cost or fee is reasonably related to the operation of the courts or court system. New law changes the deadline for submitting a copy of the proposal to the Judicial Council from Jan. 15 th of the calendar year in which the proposal is to be introduced to Oct. 15 th of the calendar year before the proposal to be introduced. New law changes the deadline for the council to notify the legislature of its recommendation from March 15 th to March 1 st . Effective August 1, 2018. (Amends R.S. 13:62(B))
