INSURANCE/GROUP-SHERI FFS: Provides relative to payment of group insurance
premiums for retirees from the Cameron Parish Sheriff's Office
1 AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 13:5554(II), relative to the payment of group insurance premiums for retirees
3 from the Cameron Parish Sheriff's Office; to provide for qualifications for and
4 payment of certain insurance premiums; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 13:5554(II) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
7 ยง5554. Group insurance; kinds; amounts; subrogation

9 II.(1) Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection D of this Section, the
10 premium costs of group hospital, surgical, and medical expense and the first ten
11 thousand dollars of life insurance contracted for under the provisions of this Section
12 shall be paid in full by the sheriff of Cameron Parish, from the sheriff's general fund,
13 for all sheriffs and deputy sheriffs retired from the Cameron Parish Sheriff's Office
14 hired on or after July 1, 2018, who are entitled to receive benefits from the Sheriff's
15 Pension and Relief Fund, have at least fifteen years of service with the Cameron
16 Parish Sheriff's Office, and are at least fifty-five years of age.
17 (2) The provisions of Paragraph (G)(1) of this Section shall apply to all
18 persons hired by the Cameron Parish Sheriff's Office prior to July 1, 2018.

Abstract: Requires the Cameron Parish Sheriff's Office to pay 100% of certain group
insurance premiums for retirees hired on or after July 1, 2018, with at least 15 years
of service with the Cameron Parish Sheriff's Office who have attained the age of 55
years.
Present law requires the Cameron Parish Sheriff's Office to pay group insurance premiums
and the first $10,000 of life insurance for all sheriff and deputy sheriff retirees with at least
15 years of service who are at least 55 years of age or who retired with at least 30 years of
service at any age. The premium payments shall be paid in full from the sheriff's general
fund.
Proposed law requires the Cameron Parish Sheriff's Office to pay group insurance premiums
and the first $10,000 of life insurance from the sheriff's general fund for eligible sheriff and
deputy sheriff retirees hired on or after July 1, 2018, who have at least 15 years of service
with the Cameron Parish Sheriff's Office and are at least 55 years of age. Additionally,
present law still applies to all sheriff and sheriff deputies hired prior to July 1, 2018.
