Louisiana House Bill HB663 Comm Sub / Analysis

                    RÉSUMÉ DIGEST
ACT 332 (HB 663) 2018 Regular Session	White
Existing constitution provides that two or more school systems may be consolidated as
provided by law. Existing law requires voter approval, in each affected school system, of
such a consolidation. Provides that the legislature or the affected school boards may call an
election for this purpose.
New law creates the Bogalusa/Washington Parish School System Consolidation Commission
to study the feasibility of consolidating the Bogalusa City School System and the Washington
Parish School System. Requires the commission to determine the feasibility of consolidating
the systems with geographic boundaries coterminous with those of Washington Parish.
Provides that if the commission determines that consolidation is in the best interest of the
students in each system and the parish as a whole, the commission shall formulate a plan and
timeline. Requires the commission to submit a written report to each school board by
Aug. 31, 2019. Provides for termination of the commission on Sept. 1, 2019.
Effective upon signature of governor (May 15, 2018).
