COURTS:  Provides relative to costs for filing a legislative continuance or extension
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 13:4163(D), relative to legislative continuances; to provide for
3 an exemption from the payment of court costs; and to provide for related matters.
4Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
5 Section 1.  R.S. 13:4163(D) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 
6 ยง4163.  Ex parte motion for legislative continuance or extension of time; legislators
7	or employees engaged in legislative or constitutional convention activities

9	D.(1)  A motion for legislative continuance or extension filed by a legislative
10 employee shall be accompanied by an affidavit, verifying such employment or
11 service, executed by the presiding officer or the clerk or secretary of the respective
12 house.
13	(2)  A motion for legislative continuance or extension shall be filed at no cost
14 to a member, employee, or a client of a member or employee.

Abstract:  Allows for a member of the legislature or a legislative employee to file a
continuance without paying court costs.
Present law provides a member of the legislature or a legislative employee the ability to file
a motion for a legislative continuance or extension of time while the legislature is in session. 
Proposed law retains present law and provides for the filing of a motion for a legislative
continuance to be done at no cost to a member of the legislature, a legislative employee, or
their client.
