DRUGS/CONTROLLED: Extends the termination date of law authorizing recommendation
or prescription of medical marijuana
1 AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 40:1046(J) and R.S. 40:1046(J) as amended and reenacted by
3 Section 2 of Act No. 96 of the 2016 Regular Session of the Legislature of Louisiana,
4 relative to medical marijuana; to provide for an extension of the termination date in
5 recommending and prescribing marijuana for therapeutic use; and to provide for
6 related matters.
7Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
8 Section 1. R.S. 40:1046(J) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
9 §1046. Recommendation of marijuana for therapeutic use; rules and regulations;
10 Louisiana Board of Pharmacy and the adoption of rules and regulations
11 relating to the dispensing of recommended marijuana for therapeutic use; the
12 Department of Agriculture and Forestry and the licensure of a production
13 facility

15 J. The provisions of this Section shall terminate on January 1, 2020 2025.
16 Section 2. R.S. 40:1046(J) as amended and reenacted by Section 2 of Act No. 96 of
17the 2016 Regular Session of the Legislature of Louisiana is hereby amended and reenacted
18to read as follows:
19 §1046. Prescription of marijuana for therapeutic use; rules and regulations;
20 Louisiana Board of Pharmacy and the adoption of rules and

Proposed law extends the present law termination date from Jan. 1, 2020 to Jan. 1, 2025.
Present law authorizes the prescription of marijuana for therapeutic use. Provides for a
termination date of Jan. 1, 2020 for that authority.
Proposed law extends the present law termination date to Jan. 1, 2025.
