HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 137

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends The Dunham School boys' basketball team on winning
the 2018 LHSAA Division III state championship
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend The Dunham School boys' basketball team upon winning the 2018 Louisiana
3 High School Athletic Association Division III state championship.
4 WHEREAS, in a nail-biting end to the title game played on Saturday, March 10,
52018, at Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles, second seed The Dunham School boys'
6basketball team held on to win 49-48 and take its first state championship in twenty years;
7and
8 WHEREAS, with time running out, guard Jordan Wright made a go-ahead shot
9amidst a sea of Episcopal defenders to bring the score to 49-47 in favor of The Dunham
10School Tigers, and in a moment of exhilaration, a wave of Tiger players rushed onto the
11court, but 0.5 seconds remained on the clock and The Dunham School Tigers were assessed
12a technical foul; opponent Episcopal went to the free throw line but connected on only the
13first free throw, and when the second shot came off the rim, the defense of The Dunham
14Tigers prevented any further scoring from their opponents; and
15 WHEREAS, Jordan Wright led all scorers with 25 points and was named Most
16Valuable Player in the title game; the Tigers completed a successful season with a wins-
17losses record of 26-7 and a spotless District 8-2A record of 6-0; Head Coach Jonathan
18Pixley, assistant coaches Chad Myers and T.J. Honore, and the dedication of the players
19have brought the LHSAA Division III trophy to The Dunham School, and its championship
20team members are all worthy of mention: seniors Mason Bourgeois and Oddyst Walker;
21juniors Ralph Davenport, Ty Spurlock, and Jordan Wright; sophomores Josh Hardy and

1Salle Wilson; freshmen Chase Augustus, Jase Augustus, Henry Hays, Jon Melara, Jordy
2Melara, Becket Pricer, and Carlos Stewart; and eighth grader John Walker McDonald; and
3 WHEREAS, Coach Pixley has instilled an ethic of winning in these fine young men
4and has demonstrated leadership and motivational skills that have led to success both on and
5off the court for The Dunham School Tigers; and
6 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title the Tigers have
7earned; to commend the team for the ability they have displayed, particularly at the most
8difficult level of competition; and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to team
9members and the coaching staff for the merits earned and the sportsmanship shown while
10achieving the highest state boys' basketball honor possible for The Dunham School.
11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
12commend and congratulate the athletes and coaches of The Dunham School boys' basketball
13team for winning the 2018 Division III Louisiana High School Athletic Association
14basketball championship and completing a truly spectacular season and does hereby
15recognize the team's outstanding performance and the pride and honor they have brought to
16their school and community.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
18to Head Coach Jonathan Pixley.
