COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Simsboro High School boys' basketball team, 2018
Class B state champions
1 A RESOLUTION
2To recognize and commend the players, coaches, and managers of the Simsboro High
3 School boys' basketball team upon winning the 2018 Class B championship.
4 WHEREAS, the top seeded Simsboro Tigers were victorious in front of an eager
5crowd in a thrilling 67-50 victory over the Zwolle Hawks to capture their first Class B
6championship on Saturday, March 10, 2018; the team's last state title was in 1975, in
7Class C; and
8 WHEREAS, the all-star lineup that led the team to the win in the final game included
9sophomore Jakemin Abney with 17 points and 11 rebounds, giving him a double-double,
10sophomore Kalep Crane, who scored in double figures with 14 points, senior Dee
11Levingston, who scored 10 points in his final game as a Simsboro Tiger, and junior Gianni
12Nelson, who led the team to triumph with a game-high 25 points and 10 rebounds and who
13was named the game's MVP after finishing 6-of-13 from the field and 13-of-16 at the free
14throw line; and
15 WHEREAS, Jakemin Abney, Miquiel Carter, Jamarion Cato, Kalep Crane, Jordan
16Crawford, Ahmad Gipson-Jackson, Deonte Levingston, Nick Maryland, Gianni Nelson,
17Kelveon Oultley, BraxtonTaylor, Reggie Tyler of the Simsboro High School boys' basketball
18team, under the tutelage of Head Coach Josh Brown and assistant coaches Michael Black,
19Jeremy Hattaway, Kyle Kavanaugh, and Keaston Walker, and manager Michael Morris,
20performed admirably during the 2017-2018 season, concluding this season with a sterling
21record of thirty-six wins and a mere two losses and their first title in forty-three years; and

1 WHEREAS, all players contributed immensely to the team's championship season;
2and the team's outstanding 2017-2018 season upholds the glorious tradition of the Tigers,
3and all Simsboro High School alumni and fans recognize the immense pride and
4distinguished honor that the team brings to its school, community, and state.
5 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
6Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend its tribute to the Simsboro High School boys'
7basketball team for an outstanding season that, through dedication, sacrifice, discipline, and
8sportsmanship, concluded in Simsboro High School winning the Class B boys' basketball
9state championship.
10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
11to Head Coach Josh Brown.
