HLS 18RS-2956 ORIGINAL 2018 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 187 BY REPRESENTATIVE JACKSON COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women and welcomes its members to the state capitol on May 15, 2018, in celebration of Women in Blue Day 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women and to welcome its members 3 to the state capitol on May 15, 2018, in celebration of Women in Blue Day. 4 WHEREAS, the National Federation of Democratic Women, or NFDW, was formed 5in October 1971, when twenty-seven women gathered at breakfast at the Capitol Hilton in 6Washington, D.C. during the Democratic Women's Leadership Conference; and 7 WHEREAS, from 1972 to 1977, the NFDW gained recognition from the Democratic 8National Committee, or DNC, as the official women's organization of the party, and received 9a seat on the Democratic National Committee Executive Committee and three seats on the 10DNC; and 11 WHEREAS, the objective of the NFDW is to unite the women of the Democratic 12Party, promote the cause of the Democratic Party, and encourage full participation of women 13at every level of its structure; and 14 WHEREAS, in November 2017, twelve women from across Louisiana traveled to 15Little Rock, Arkansas, to participate as guests at the Southern Regional Meeting of the 16NFDW; and 17 WHEREAS, at the meeting, these women were welcomed by women from other 18southern states, and became interested in chartering a Louisiana affiliate of the NFDW; and 19 WHEREAS, after a meeting with leadership in Arkansas, the first organizational 20meeting of the Louisiana affiliate of the NFDW was held in December 2017, in Pineville, Page 1 of 2 HLS 18RS-2956 ORIGINAL HR NO. 187 1Louisiana, where thirty-six women from across Louisiana heeded the party's call to form a 2statewide leadership organization; and 3 WHEREAS, after officers were elected and bylaws drafted, in February 2018, these 4women named the organization the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women, or LFDW, 5and submitted its bylaws to the Louisiana Democratic State Central Committee, or DSCC; 6and 7 WHEREAS, in March 2018, the LFDW was formally recognized by the DSCC and 8granted full voting privileges with the NFDW; and 9 WHEREAS, the LFDW is an organization dedicated to empowering Democratic 10women across the state of Louisiana and promoting the views and values of the Democratic 11Party; and 12 WHEREAS, on May 15, 2018, members of the LFDW will be visiting the state 13capitol in recognition of Women in Blue Day, an event taking place across the United States 14in support of the Democratic Party. 15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 16Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana Federation of Democratic 17Women for its services to women and the Democratic Party in the state of Louisiana and 18does hereby welcome its members to the state capitol on May 15, 2018, in celebration of 19Women in Blue Day. 20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 21to the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women.
