COMMENDATIONS: Commends Rodney Harrington on his 2018 induction into the
Louisiana Folklife Center Hall of Master Folk Artists
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Rodney Harrington upon his 2018 induction into the Louisiana Folklife Center
3 Hall of Master Folk Artists.
4 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Folklife Center is an agency of Northwestern State
5University of Louisiana and was established in 1976; and
6 WHEREAS, the mission of the Louisiana Folklife Center is to identify, document,
7and present Louisiana's rich history of folklore and folklife, and the center serves as an
8archival repository for many folklife materials; and
9 WHEREAS, the Hall of Master Folk Artists, which was started in 1981, currently has
10more than one hundred distinguished inducted honorees in celebration of Louisiana's vibrant
11and diverse folk culture; and
12 WHEREAS, Rodney Harrington has been involved in Louisiana music for more than
13thirty years and has been the front man for Johnny Earthquake and The Moondogs since the
14band's beginnings nearly twenty-five years ago; The Moondogs have gained fame for their
15eclectic and unique Louisiana sound and have been called "quite simply, Louisiana's best
16show band" by music critics; and
17 WHEREAS, Rodney is proud of his Natchitoches and Pelican State roots; he has
18written and recorded Cane River Blues, Reflections on the Cane, and This Is Our Town, odes
19to the area and its music and culture; and
20 WHEREAS, Rodney Harrington serves on the boards of music-related charities and
21works tirelessly to raise funds to buy musical instruments for school children; he has

1promoted and produced concerts and musical events, is a twenty-two year member of the
2Natchitoches Jazz/R&B Festival, and serves as the festival's chairman; and
3 WHEREAS, the syndicated radio program, Jammin' With Johnny – The Johnny
4Earthquake Show, has been on the air for nearly twenty years, with Rodney as the host; it
5is the only radio show in north Louisiana that regularly features live local and area
6musicians; Rodney Harrington merits a special measure of commendation upon his 2018
7induction into the Louisiana Folklife Center Hall of Master Folk Artists.
8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
9Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Rodney Harrington upon his 2018 induction
10into the Louisiana Folklife Center Hall of Master Folk Artists; does hereby congratulate him
11on his musicianship, musical achievements, and philanthropy; and does hereby extend to him
12every good wish for continued success, prosperity, and happiness in the future.
13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
14to Rodney Harrington.
