HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 214

A RESOLUTION
To commend Rodney Harrington upon his 2018 induction into the Louisiana Folklife Center
Hall of Master Folk Artists.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Folklife Center is an agency of Northwestern State
University of Louisiana and was established in 1976; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the Louisiana Folklife Center is to identify, document,
and present Louisiana's rich history of folklore and folklife, and the center serves as an
archival repository for many folklife materials; and
WHEREAS, the Hall of Master Folk Artists, which was started in 1981, currently has
more than one hundred distinguished inducted honorees in celebration of Louisiana's vibrant
and diverse folk culture; and
WHEREAS, Rodney Harrington has been involved in Louisiana music for more than
thirty years and has been the front man for Johnny Earthquake and The Moondogs since the
band's beginnings nearly twenty-five years ago; The Moondogs have gained fame for their
eclectic and unique Louisiana sound and have been called "quite simply, Louisiana's best
show band" by music critics; and
WHEREAS, Rodney is proud of his Natchitoches and Pelican State roots; he has
written and recorded Cane River Blues, Reflections on the Cane, and This Is Our Town, odes
to the area and its music and culture; and
WHEREAS, Rodney Harrington serves on the boards of music-related charities and
works tirelessly to raise funds to buy musical instruments for school children; he has
promoted and produced concerts and musical events, is a twenty-two year member of the
Natchitoches Jazz/R&B Festival, and serves as the festival's chairman; and

WHEREAS, the syndicated radio program, Jammin' With Johnny – The Johnny
Earthquake Show, has been on the air for nearly twenty years, with Rodney as the host; it
is the only radio show in north Louisiana that regularly features live local and area
musicians; Rodney Harrington merits a special measure of commendation upon his 2018
induction into the Louisiana Folklife Center Hall of Master Folk Artists.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Rodney Harrington upon his 2018 induction
into the Louisiana Folklife Center Hall of Master Folk Artists; does hereby congratulate him
on his musicianship, musical achievements, and philanthropy; and does hereby extend to him
every good wish for continued success, prosperity, and happiness in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Rodney Harrington.
