HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 56

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the Holden Lady Rockets girls' basketball team on
winning the 2018 Class B state championship
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Holden High School Lady Rockets girls' basketball team upon winning the
3 2018 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class B state championship.
4 WHEREAS, in dramatic fashion in the final five seconds of the title game on
5Saturday, March 3, 2018, sophomore Jaycee Hughes sank the basket that lifted the Lady
6Rockets to a 40-39 win over Anacoco and gave the Holden High School girls' basketball
7team the school's sixth state title, the fifth for Head Coach Pam Forbes; and
8 WHEREAS, the Holden High School Lady Rockets completed a near-perfect season
9with a win-loss record of 31-1 and a sweep of its district opponents at 4-0, achieved under
10the leadership of Coach Forbes who holds a stellar overall win-loss record of 598-144; and
11 WHEREAS, ignited by the fine coaching of Pam Forbes and her assistants, Craig
12Forbes and Holli Bankston, and with the help of team managers Alyssa Blount, Jake Forbes,
13and Allie Smith, trainer Dr. Jeffery Franco, and statistician Margie Neal, the Lady Rockets
14blasted through the 2017-2018 LHSAA season to reach their ultimate goal, the Class B girls'
15basketball title; each Lady Rocket deserves mention for her magnificent performance
16throughout the year: seniors Amanda Fekete, Kaylee Hughes, Kaitlyn Kropog, and Victoria
17Richardson; juniors Shelby Forbes and Taylor Forbes; sophomores Jaycee Hughes, Emma
18Hutchinson, Emily Stafford, and Reanna Sheridan; freshmen Hannah Harris and Gabby
19Sharp; and eighth graders Megan Briethupt, Camille Comish, Madeline Richardson, Shelbi
20Stafford, and Raegan Stewart; and

1 WHEREAS, Coach Forbes has instilled an ethic of winning in these young women
2athletes and has demonstrated leadership and motivational skills that have led to success
3both on and off the court for the Holden Lady Rockets; and
4 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title the Lady Rockets
5have earned; to commend the team for the ability they have displayed, particularly at the
6most difficult level of competition; and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to
7the team members and coaching staff for the merits earned and the sportsmanship shown
8while achieving the highest state girls' basketball honor possible for Holden High School.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
10Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the athletes, coaches, and
11management staff of the Holden High School girls' basketball team for winning the 2018
12Class B state basketball championship, capping off a truly spectacular season and does
13hereby recognize the team's outstanding performance and the pride and honor they have
14brought to their school and community.
15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
16to Head Coach Pam Forbes.
