BY REPRESENTATIVE STOKES
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends LSU Health Sciences Center at New Orleans for its
participation in the Southeast Partnership for Improving Research and Training in
Cancer Health Disparities and its receipt of a National Institutes of Health P20
Exploratory Center Grant
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend LSU Health Sciences Center at New Orleans for its participation in the
3 Southeast Partnership for Improving Research and Training in Cancer Health
4 Disparities and the partnership's receipt of a National Institutes of Health P20
5 Exploratory Center Grant.
6 WHEREAS, LSU Health Sciences Center at New Orleans has partnered with the
7NCI-designated Moffitt Cancer Center to form the Southeast Partnership for Improving
8Research and Training in Cancer Health Disparities; and
9 WHEREAS, this partnership has the primary goal of reducing health disparities by
10planning and implementing focused collaborations in cancer precision medicine research,
11cancer research experience, and cancer education; and
12 WHEREAS, the combination of research, cancer research education, and cancer
13outreach/education activities is expected to provide mutual benefit to each institution, inspire
14the next generation of researchers, rapidly lead to the submission of larger grant applications,
15and bring the benefits of cancer research advancements to our communities; and
16 WHEREAS, the partnership seeks to promote research education and outreach that
17will improve racial/ethnic minority awareness of and participation in precision medicine
18research; and
19 WHEREAS, the partnership has received a National Institutes of Health P20
20Exploratory Center Grant that supports both a breast cancer ribonucleic acid sequencing

1program for Hispanic/Latino patients and a three-pronged cancer research education
2program.
3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
4Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend LSU Health Sciences Center at New
5Orleans, as well as its faculty, staff, and students for its participation in the Southeast
6Partnership for Improving Research and Training in Cancer Health Disparities and the
7partnership's receipt of a National Institutes of Health P20 Exploratory Center Grant and for
8its dedication to finding a cure for cancer for the citizens of Louisiana.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
10to Dr. Lucio Miele, Professor and Department Head, LSU Health Sciences Center at New
11Orleans School of Medicine, Department of Genetics & Director for Inter-Institutional
12Programs, LSU Stanley Scott Cancer Center and Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium.
