ENROLLED 2018 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 94 BY REPRESENTATIVE STOKES A RESOLUTION To commend LSU Health Sciences Center at New Orleans for its participation in the Southeast Partnership for Improving Research and Training in Cancer Health Disparities and the partnership's receipt of a National Institutes of Health P20 Exploratory Center Grant. WHEREAS, LSU Health Sciences Center at New Orleans has partnered with the NCI-designated Moffitt Cancer Center to form the Southeast Partnership for Improving Research and Training in Cancer Health Disparities; and WHEREAS, this partnership has the primary goal of reducing health disparities by planning and implementing focused collaborations in cancer precision medicine research, cancer research experience, and cancer education; and WHEREAS, the combination of research, cancer research education, and cancer outreach/education activities is expected to provide mutual benefit to each institution, inspire the next generation of researchers, rapidly lead to the submission of larger grant applications, and bring the benefits of cancer research advancements to our communities; and WHEREAS, the partnership seeks to promote research education and outreach that will improve racial/ethnic minority awareness of and participation in precision medicine research; and WHEREAS, the partnership has received a National Institutes of Health P20 Exploratory Center Grant that supports both a breast cancer ribonucleic acid sequencing program for Hispanic/Latino patients and a three-pronged cancer research education program. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend LSU Health Sciences Center at New Orleans, as well as its faculty, staff, and students for its participation in the Southeast Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 94 ENROLLED Partnership for Improving Research and Training in Cancer Health Disparities and the partnership's receipt of a National Institutes of Health P20 Exploratory Center Grant and for its dedication to finding a cure for cancer for the citizens of Louisiana. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Dr. Lucio Miele, Professor and Department Head, LSU Health Sciences Center at New Orleans School of Medicine, Department of Genetics & Director for Inter-Institutional Programs, LSU Stanley Scott Cancer Center and Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium.
