Provides relative to premium costs for retired sheriffs and deputy sheriffs of the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office. (7/1/18) 1 AN ACT 2 To enact R.S. 13:5554(II), relative to payment of certain premium costs of retired sheriffs 3 and retired deputy sheriffs; to provide relative to payment of certain premium costs 4 for retired sheriffs and retired deputy sheriffs of the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's 5 Office; to provide for eligibility for payment of premium costs; to provide for 6 applicability; and to provide for related matters. 7 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 8 Section 1. R.S. 13:5554(II) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 9 ยง5554. Group insurance; kinds; amounts; subrogation 10 * * * 11 II. Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection D of this Section, the 12 sheriff of Vermilion Parish shall pay out of the sheriff's general fund the 13 premium costs of group insurance for any retired sheriff and any retired deputy 14 sheriff who retires from the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office as follows: 15 (1) Fifty percent of the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, dental, 16 and medical expense and the first ten thousand dollars of life insurance if the 17 sheriff or deputy sheriff has at least fifteen years of full-time continuous and Page 1 of 3 Coding: Words which are struck through are deletions from existing law; words in boldface type and underscored are additions. SB NO. 120 SLS 18RS-250 REENGROSSED 1 creditable service with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office and is at least 2 fifty-five years of age and is retiring from active service with the Vermilion 3 Parish Sheriff's Office. A sheriff or deputy sheriff's creditable days of full-time 4 service shall be determined by the Louisiana Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund. 5 (2) One hundred percent of the premium costs of group hospital, 6 surgical, dental, and medical expense insurance and the first ten thousand 7 dollars of life insurance if the sheriff or deputy sheriff has at least thirty years 8 of full-time continuous and creditable service with the Vermilion Parish 9 Sheriff's Office, regardless of age. A sheriff or deputy sheriff's creditable days 10 of full-time service shall be determined by the Louisiana Sheriffs' Pension and 11 Relief Fund. 12 (3) The provisions of this Subsection shall apply only to sheriffs and 13 deputy sheriffs hired by the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office on or after July 14 1, 2018. 15 (4) The provisions of Paragraph (G)(1) of this Section shall apply to 16 sheriffs and deputy sheriffs hired by the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office prior 17 to July 1, 2018. 18 Section 2. DIGEST SB 120 Reengrossed 2018 Regular Session Perry Present law provides that the sheriff of Vermilion Parish shall pay in full from the sheriff's general fund certain insurance premium costs for all sheriffs and deputy sheriffs retired with at least 15 years of service who are at least 55 years of age or retired with at least 30 years of service at any age. Proposed law provides the sheriff of Vermilion Parish shall pay out of the sheriff's general fund the premium costs of group insurance for any retired sheriff and any retired deputy sheriff who retires from the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office (office) as follows: (1)50% of the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, dental, and medical expense and the first $10,000 of life insurance if the sheriff or deputy sheriff has at least 15 years of full-time continuous and creditable service with the office and is at least 55 years of age and is retiring from active service with the office. Proposed law provides that a sheriff or deputy sheriff's creditable days of full-time service shall be determined by the Louisiana Sheriffs' Pension and Relief Fund. Proposed law shall apply only to sheriffs and deputy sheriffs hired by the office on or after July 1, 2018. Proposed law provides that the general provisions of present law shall apply to sheriffs and deputy sheriffs hired by the office prior to July 1, 2018. Effective July 1, 2018.
