Present law prohibits the issuance of warning citations for violations of motor vehicle laws.
Proposed law exempts the sheriff's offices of Acadia, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lafourche, St. Charles,
St. John the Baptist, and Vermilion parishes and allows the issuance of warning citations in those
parishes.
Present law allows peace officers in all parishes to issue a violation ticket that compels or instructs
the motorist to comply with administrative or other legal requirements.
Proposed law retains present law.
Effective August 1, 2018.
