The provisions of this Section shall not apply to veterinarians or 13 pharmaceutical marketers who engage in any form of prescription drug 14 marketing directly to a prescriber, his designee, or any member of his staff 15 regarding prescription drugs manufactured exclusively for nonhuman 16 consumption. 17 Section 2. DIGEST SB 28 Engrossed 2018 Regular Session Mills Present law provides that pharmaceutical manufacturers who engage in marketing directly to a prescriber may inform the prescribers of an internet website containing prescription drug price information. Proposed law exempts veterinarians and certain pharmaceutical marketers of prescription drugs manufactured exclusively for nonhuman consumption from the provisions established in present law regarding disclosure of prescription drug price information. Present law requires prescribers to access the prescription drug monitoring program prior to initially prescribing an opioid and every 90 days if the course of treatment continues. Proposed law exempts veterinarians from accessing the prescription monitoring program prior to prescribing an opioid and every 90 days if the course of treatment continues. Present law requires prescribers of controlled dangerous substances to obtain three credit hours of continuing education on drug diversion training, best practice prescribing of controlled substances, appropriate treatment for addiction, and other matters deemed relevant by their respective licensing board. Proposed law exempts veterinarians from continuing education requirements for prescribers of controlled dangerous substances. Effective August 1, 2018.
