SENATE BILL NO. 331

MOTOR VEHICLES.  Provides for a ten-year renewable period for hang tags for persons
with mobility impairments. (8/1/18)
1	AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 47:463.4(B)(1), relative to hang tags for persons with mobility
3 impairments; to provide for a ten-year renewal period; and to provide for related
4 matters.
5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 47:463.4(B)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
7 ยง463.4. Special license plates or hang tags for persons with mobility impairments

9	B.(1) In addition to a special license plate, on the application for a hang tag
10 made by any person with a mobility impairment whose impairment is permanent,
11 and upon a showing of good cause, the secretary shall issue a hang tag, renewable
12 as any driver's license for a person whose impairment is permanent every four ten
13 years and which shall be valid until revoked or suspended. The secretary shall
14 determine the form, size, and color of the hang tag, and the material of which it is to
15 be made. The card shall bear the international symbol of accessibility. The secretary
16 shall adopt and promulgate rules and regulations relating to the issuance, revocation,
17 surrender, and proper display of the tags. Each initial application shall be

1 accompanied by a currently dated medical examiner's statement which includes the
2 medical examiner's state license number certifying that the applicant has a mobility
3 impairment that is permanent.

Present law requires the issuance of a hang tag for a person with a permanent mobility
impairment and upon a showing of good cause, renewable as any driver's license, for a
period of four years and which remains valid until revoked or suspended.
Proposed law changes the renewal period from four years to ten years.
Effective August 1, 2018.
