SPECIAL DISTRICTS. Provides for the collection of proceeds of fees from the University

2 To amend and reenact R.S. 33:9091.24(F)(7)(a) and (b), relative to the University
3 Neighborhood Security and Improvement District in the parish of Orleans; to provide
4 for the collection of proceeds of fees; and to provide for related matters.
5 Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 33:9091.24(F)(7)(a) and (b) are hereby amended and reenacted to
8 read as follows:

12 (7)(a) The proceeds of the fee shall be used solely and exclusively for the
13 purpose and benefit of the district; however, the Orleans Parish Sheriff Department
14 of Finance for the city of New Orleans may retain one percent of the amount
15 collected as a collection fee.
16 (b) The Orleans Parish Sheriff Department of Finance for the city of New
17 Orleans shall remit to the district all amounts collected not more than sixty days

3 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not
4 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
5 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If
6 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
7 effective on the day following such approval.

Present law, regarding the University Neighborhood Security and Improvement District in
New Orleans, permits the Orleans Parish Sheriff to retain one percent of the amount
collected as a collection fee.
Present law provides for the Orleans Parish Sheriff to remit to the district all amounts
collected not more than 60 days after collection.
Proposed law changes the entity that collects the fee from the Orleans Parish Sheriff to the
Department of Finance for the city of New Orleans and requires the Department of Finance
to remit to the district all amounts collected not more than 60 days after collection.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
