Present law, regarding the University Neighborhood Security and Improvement District in New
Orleans, permits the Orleans Parish Sheriff to retain one percent of the amount collected as a
collection fee.
Present law provides for the Orleans Parish Sheriff to remit to the district all amounts collected not
more than 60 days after collection.
Proposed law changes the entity that collects the fee from the Orleans Parish Sheriff to the
Department of Finance for the city of New Orleans and requires the Department of Finance to remit
to the district all amounts collected not more than 60 days after collection.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
