DIGEST SB 527 Original 2018 Regular Session LaFleur Present law creates the Louisiana State Racing Commission and provides the duties of the commission. Present law, regarding pari-mutuel live racing facilities, provides that in order to conduct offtrack or other authorized wagering, an association must meet the following minimum live racing requirements: (1)Not less than 130 racing days per year. (2)Not less than 84 days conducted during 21 consecutive weeks of thoroughbred horse racing. (3)Not less than 46 days conducted during 12 consecutive weeks of quarter horse racing. Proposed law retains present law. Present law provides that at any facility where the purse revenue from slot machines is limited to a certain number of slot machines, that facility must meet the following minimum live racing requirements: (1)80 thoroughbred racing days per year conducted during 20 consecutive weeks. (2)Not less than 10 quarter horse racing days per year conducted during three consecutive weeks. Present law provides that an eligible facility in Orleans Parish shall be authorized to have a maximum of 700 slot machines. Proposed law removes the requirement of not less than 10 quarter horse racing days. Proposed law provides that notwithstanding proposed law, slot machine proceeds shall be collected and allocated to supplement quarter horse purses as provided by present law.
