SENATE BILL NO. 61

JUDGES.  Provides for salaries for judges as recommended by the Judicial Compensation
Commission. (gov sig)
1	AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 13:50, relative to certain judicial salaries; to provide for salary
3 increases for judges of the supreme court, courts of appeal, district courts, city
4 courts, and parish courts as recommended by the Judicial Compensation
5 Commission; and to provide for related matters.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 13:50 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
8 ยง50.  Salary as recommended by the Judicial Compensation Commission
9	Pursuant to the Judicial Compensation Commission's report dated January 9,
10 2013 December 28, 2017:
11	(1)(a) Effective July 1, 2013, the actual salary of the judges of the supreme
12 court, courts of appeal, and district courts shall be increased as follows:
13	(i) Supreme court - five and one-half percent.
14	(ii) Courts of appeal - three and seven-tenths percent.
15	(iii) District courts - four percent.
16	(b) The actual salary of the judges of the supreme court, courts of appeal, and
17 district courts shall be increased by two and one-tenth percent on July first of 2014,

1 2015, 2016, and 2017.
2	(2)(a) Effective July 1, 2013, the state-paid actual salary of the judges of city
3 courts and parish courts shall be increased by four percent.
4	(b) The state-paid actual salary of the judges of city courts and parish courts
5 shall be increased by two and one-tenth percent on July first of 2014, 2015, 2016,
6 and 2017.
7	(1) The actual salary of the judges of the supreme court, courts of appeal,
8 and district courts shall be increased by two and one-half percent on July first
9 of 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.
10	(2) The state-paid actual salary of the judges of city courts and parish
11 courts shall be increased by two and one-half percent on July first of 2018, 2019,
12 2020, 2021, and 2022.
13 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not
14 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
15 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If
16 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
17 effective on the day following such approval.

Present law provides relative to judicial compensation and salaries for the years 2013
through 2017.
Proposed law provides that the actual salary of the judges of the supreme courts, courts of
appeal, and district courts shall be increased by 2.5% on July 1st of 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021,
and 2022.
Proposed law provides that the state-paid salary of city court and parish court judges shall
be increased by 2.5% on July 1st of 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
