RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 516 (SB 76) 2018 Regular Session Boudreaux Prior law prohibited taking certain contraband into state-owned and administered hospitals. New law makes prior law and new law applicable to all hospitals by removing "state-owned and administered". Prior law identified one form of contraband prohibited in hospitals as narcotic or hypnotic drugs that create a hypnotic effect if taken internally. New law modernizes this definition to include any controlled dangerous substance that has not been prescribed or recommended in accordance with the Uniform Controlled Dangerous Substances Law. Prior law identified one form of contraband prohibited in hospitals as any firearm or other instrumentality customarily considered a dangerous weapon. New law provides that in order to be considered prohibited contraband the firearm or other instrumentality must be possessed by a person who is prohibited from possessing the firearm or instrumentality pursuant to state or federal law. Effective August 1, 2018. (Amends R.S. 14:402.1(A))
