RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 26 (SB 83) 2018 Regular Session Perry Prior law required that the elected chief of police of a municipality be an elector of the municipality and that at the time of qualification as a candidate for the office of chief of police, the candidate has been domiciled for at least the immediately preceding year in the municipality. Prior law did not apply to the village of Napoleonville. Prior law provided for exceptions authorizing a person residing outside the corporate limits of the village of Maurice to be elected chief of police of Maurice and by authorizing a person residing outside the corporate limits of the town of Gueydan, but within Ward 3 of Vermilion Parish, to be elected chief of police of the town. New law retains prior law but changes the jurisdiction from which a person residing outside the corporate limits of the town of Gueydan, from Ward 3 to Ward 8 of Vermilion Parish, to be elected chief of police of the town.
