SLS 18RS-811 ORIGINAL 2018 Regular Session SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 25 BY SENATOR ERDEY AND REPRESENTATI VE MACK COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Holden High School Lady Rockets on winning the LHSAA Class B girls basketball championship. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend the Holden High School Lady Rockets on winning the Louisiana High School 3 Athletic Association Class B girls basketball championship. 4 WHEREAS, on Saturday, March 3, 2018, the Holden High School Lady Rockets 5 defeated the Anacoco High School Lady Indians to win the Louisiana High School Athletic 6 Association Class B girls basketball championship at the Rapides Parish Coliseum in 7 Alexandria, Louisiana; and 8 WHEREAS, the win gave the Lady Rockets their second title in three years, sixth 9 title overall, and the fifth title for head coach Pam Forbes; and 10 WHEREAS, while the Lady Rockets did not control the tempo of the game, making 11 only just over thirty-three percent of their shots from the field and trailing most of the game, 12 all it took was one final shot by Jaycee Hughes to win; and 13 WHEREAS, back-to-back baskets by Taylor Forbes gave the Lady Rockets their first 14 lead early in the second quarter and Emma Hutchinson's jumper from the right baseline gave 15 them a 19-18 lead less than a minute before halftime; and 16 WHEREAS, Jaycee Hughes scored the final six points for the Lady Rockets and with 17 1:44 remaining, led the team to within one point with a bucket and a free throw; and 18 WHEREAS, she drove the baseline and banked in a layup with just over four seconds Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 25 SLS 18RS-811 ORIGINAL 1 remaining to give the top-seeded Holden High School Lady Rockets a 40-39 victory over 2 the Anacoco High School Lady Indians in the Class B title game; and 3 WHEREAS, Jaycee Hughes scored a game-high seventeen points on six of fourteen 4 shooting and was voted Most Valuable Player in the title game; and 5 WHEREAS, the members of the talented Holden High School Lady Rockets squad, 6 Amanda Fekete, Kaylee Hughes, Kaitlyn Kropog, Victoria Richardson, Shelby Forbes, 7 Taylor Forbes, Jaycee Hughes, Emma Hutchinson, Emily Stafford, Reanna Sheridan, 8 Hannah Harris, Gabby Sharp, Megan Briethupt, Camille Comish, Madeline Richardson, 9 Shelbi Stafford, and Raegan Stewart, merit recognition and congratulations for their 10 extraordinary performance and their competitive spirit throughout the season and the 11 tournament; and 12 WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest level of athletic 13 excellence throughout the tournament and each of them deserves recognition for their vital 14 contribution to the winning effort; and 15 WHEREAS, head coach, Pam Forbes, instilled an ethic of winning and demonstrated 16 the kind of leadership and motivational skills needed to produce winners both on and off the 17 court; and 18 WHEREAS, the Holden High School Lady Rockets basketball team is recognized 19 for the well-deserved accolades earned throughout the season and for showcasing the 20 extraordinary athletic abilities they have displayed, particularly at the most difficult level of 21 high school competition. 22 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 23 express its sincere congratulations to the Holden High School Lady Rockets girls basketball 24 team and their coach for the sportsmanship shown while achieving such high honors for 25 themselves, for Holden High School, the city of Holden, and the state of Louisiana. 26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 27 principal of Holden High School.
