Commends Charles Doerr Lancaster Jr. upon his induction into the Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend Charles Doerr Lancaster Jr. upon his induction into the Louisiana Political 3 Museum and Hall of Fame. 4 WHEREAS, Charles Doerr Lancaster Jr. is one of the state's most prominent political 5 leaders and holds the record as the longest serving Republican member of the Louisiana 6 House of Representatives; and 7 WHEREAS, born on September 22, 1943, in Metairie, he is a graduate of Jesuit High 8 School in New Orleans, received his bachelor of art's degree from the University of 9 Southwest Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette), and earned a Juris 10 Doctor degree from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law; and 11 WHEREAS, he was only twenty-eight years old when he was originally elected to 12 the Louisiana House of Representatives to represent the people of District 80, and his 13 lengthy career would span eight nonconsecutive four-year terms, a record unsurpassed by 14 any other Republican in the state; and 15 WHEREAS, he was an active party builder in the days when there were few 16 Republicans in Louisiana, and served as chairman of the House Committee on House and 17 Governmental Affairs, and as a member of the Executive Committee, the Legislative 18 Budgetary Control Council, and the Special Committee on Disaster Planning; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 34 SLS 18RS-782 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, his distinguished legislative career established him as an important 2 conservative voice advocating for small government, low taxes, pro-business policies, and 3 family values; and 4 WHEREAS, although he is no longer serving in the legislature, he is active in the 5 American Legislative Exchange Council, the Jefferson Bar Association, the Louisiana Bar 6 Association, the Jefferson Performing Arts Society, the New Orleans Sports Foundation, the 7 Southern Republican Exchange, the National Conference of State Legislatures, and is fellow 8 at the Loyola University Institute of Politics; and 9 WHEREAS, of all his achievements, none is greater than his happy marriage to his 10 wife Patches Shannon Lancaster; and 11 WHEREAS, Charles Doerr Lancaster Jr. has rightly earned his place among the 12 many legends in state politics because of his long and successful career and his many years 13 serving the people of Louisiana. 14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 15 commend and congratulate Charles Doerr Lancaster Jr. upon his induction into the Louisiana 16 Political Museum and Hall of Fame. 17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 18 Charles Doerr Lancaster Jr. The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by McHenry Lee.
