Requests the Louisiana Department of Insurance to assemble a task force to address the high automobile insurance rates in the state. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To urge and request the Louisiana Department of Insurance to assemble a task force to 3 address the high automobile insurance rates in the state. 4 WHEREAS, Louisiana is the second most expensive state for automobile insurance 5 in the nation; and 6 WHEREAS, in the past two years, five companies have left the state due to the 7 unprofitability of the automobile insurance industry; and 8 WHEREAS, fourteen percent of Louisiana drivers do not have insurance and forty 9 percent of drivers only have the bare minimum policy; and 10 WHEREAS, major metropolitan areas, such as New Orleans and Baton Rouge, have 11 considerably higher automobile insurance rates than other less populated areas in the state. 12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 13 urge and request the Louisiana Department of Insurance to assemble a task force to address 14 the high automobile insurance rates in the state and submit a report with findings and 15 recommendations to the senate and house committees on insurance by March 1, 2019. 16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 17 Louisiana Department of Insurance.
