Commends Glen F. Post III upon his retirement from CenturyLink, Inc. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend and congratulate Glen F. Post III upon his retirement from CenturyLink, Inc. 3 WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens and the Legislature of Louisiana 4 honor the career of Glen F. Post III; and 5 WHEREAS, Glen F. Post III was born October 4, 1952; and 6 WHEREAS, his CenturyLink career has spanned four decades, and he is the chief 7 executive officer and president of CenturyLink, an S&P 500 integrated communications 8 service provider based out of Monroe, Louisiana; and 9 WHEREAS, Mr. Post earned a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1974 at Louisiana 10 Tech University and a master's degree in business administration in 1976 at Louisiana Tech 11 University; and 12 WHEREAS, after graduating, he joined CenturyTel in 1976, was named vice 13 president in 1982, was promoted to senior vice president and treasurer in 1984, was 14 appointed to the CenturyTel board of directors in 1985, was promoted to senior vice 15 president and chief financial officer in 1986, and in 1988, Mr. Post was named executive 16 vice president and chief operating officer; and 17 WHEREAS, Mr. Post became the president and chief operating officer of CenturyTel 18 in 1990, and in 1992 he was named vice chairman of the board, president, and chief Page 1 of 4 SCR NO. 68 SLS 18RS-761 ORIGINAL 1 executive officer; and 2 WHEREAS, in 2002 he was appointed chairman of the board and chief executive 3 officer, and since 2009, Mr. Post has served as chief executive officer and president of 4 CenturyLink; and 5 WHEREAS, he has earned numerous accolades and honors, including the Louisiana 6 Tech University College of Administration and Business Distinguished Alumni in 1991, 7 Louisiana Tech University Tower Medallion Award in 1997, and DeGree Enterprises 8 Lifetime Achievement Award in Business in 2003; and 9 WHEREAS, Glen Post III has served on the National Security Telecommunications 10 Advisory Committee and numerous other boards and foundations, and previously chaired 11 the Federal Communications Commission's Communications Security, Reliability, and 12 Interoperability Council; and 13 WHEREAS, under his leadership CenturyLink's 2016 annual revenues were $17.5 14 billion, the 2014 annual revenues were $18 billion, up from $360 million in 1992 when Post 15 was appointed CEO; and 16 WHEREAS, since 1992, he has led the company's strategic positioning and directed 17 all acquisitions and divestitures; and 18 WHEREAS, he has led CenturyLink's transformation over the last several years into 19 a global network provider, managed hosting, and IT solutions leader; also under his 20 leadership, CenturyLink has become a leading provider of high-speed data, managed 21 hosting, IT and voice services across the United States and in select international markets, 22 through strategically investing in its advanced fiber optic network and complementary 23 advanced technology capabilities; and 24 WHEREAS, Glen F. Post III has always led CenturyLink with a focus on delivering 25 high-quality products and services to its customers, enhancing the communities it serves in 26 a meaningful way, and creating a dynamic work environment for its employees; and 27 WHEREAS, he has maintained a disciplined approach to operations leadership and 28 strategic acquisitions utilizing CenturyLink's strong cash flow and financial strength in 29 driving the long-term shareholder value; and 30 WHEREAS, the 2009 acquisition of Embarq Corporation more than tripled the Page 2 of 4 SCR NO. 68 SLS 18RS-761 ORIGINAL 1 company's revenues and customer base, and the 2011 acquisition of Qwest more than 2 doubled CenturyLink's size again, transforming CenturyLink into one of the leading 3 communications companies in the United States and a recognized leader in providing 4 networking solutions; and 5 WHEREAS, the 2017 acquisition of Level 3 Communications further transformed 6 CenturyLink, making the company the second largest domestic and the third largest 7 international communications provider to global enterprise customers, this increased scale 8 and combined service offerings and enhanced business focus solidified the company's 9 position as a global network solutions leader; and 10 WHEREAS, under Mr. Post's leadership, the company established and then expanded 11 the CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation that is dedicated to improving the 12 well-being and overall quality of life of people in the communities that CenturyLink serves; 13 and 14 WHEREAS, the foundation is named after CenturyLink's founder, Clarke M. 15 Williams, and the foundation is endowed by CenturyLink and provides funds for numerous 16 community and educational initiatives, including the company's Backpack Buddies Food 17 Drive, which has provided over fifty-six million meals to people in need through local food 18 banks over the past eight years; and 19 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities, 20 and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon men like 21 Glen F. Post III who use their incredible knowledge, talent, and resources to not only 22 improve but forge a better life for our citizens and all our future generations. 23 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 24 acknowledge the numerous outstanding accomplishments of Glen F. Post III and 25 congratulates him on his much deserved retirement and wishes him much success in all his 26 future endeavors. 27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 28 Glen F.
