2018 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 68 BY SENATORS WALSWORTH, FANNIN, RISER AND THOMPSON AND REPRESENTATIVES ANDERS, CHANEY, HOFFMANN, HUNTER, JACKSON, MCFARLAND, JAY MORRIS AND SHADOIN A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend and congratulate Glen F. Post III upon his retirement from CenturyLink, Inc. WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens and the Legislature of Louisiana honor the career of Glen F. Post III; and WHEREAS, Glen F. Post III was born October 4, 1952; and WHEREAS, his CenturyLink career has spanned four decades, and he is the chief executive officer and president of CenturyLink, an S&P 500 integrated communications service provider based out of Monroe, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Mr. Post earned a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1974 at Louisiana Tech University and a master's degree in business administration in 1976 at Louisiana Tech University; and WHEREAS, after graduating, he joined CenturyTel in 1976, was named vice president in 1982, was promoted to senior vice president and treasurer in 1984, was appointed to the CenturyTel board of directors in 1985, was promoted to senior vice president and chief financial officer in 1986, and in 1988, Mr. Post was named executive vice president and chief operating officer; and WHEREAS, Mr. Post became the president and chief operating officer of CenturyTel in 1990, and in 1992 he was named vice chairman of the board, president, and chief executive officer; and WHEREAS, in 2002 he was appointed chairman of the board and chief executive officer, and since 2009, Mr. Post has served as chief executive officer and president of CenturyLink; and WHEREAS, he has earned numerous accolades and honors, including the Louisiana Tech University College of Administration and Business Distinguished Alumni in 1991, Louisiana Tech University Tower Medallion Award in 1997, and DeGree Enterprises Lifetime Achievement Award in Business in 2003; and Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 68 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Glen Post III has served on the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee and numerous other boards and foundations, and previously chaired the Federal Communications Commission's Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council; and WHEREAS, under his leadership CenturyLink's 2016 annual revenues were $17.5 billion, the 2014 annual revenues were $18 billion, up from $360 million in 1992 when Post was appointed CEO; and WHEREAS, since 1992, he has led the company's strategic positioning and directed all acquisitions and divestitures; and WHEREAS, he has led CenturyLink's transformation over the last several years into a global network provider, managed hosting, and IT solutions leader; also under his leadership, CenturyLink has become a leading provider of high-speed data, managed hosting, IT and voice services across the United States and in select international markets, through strategically investing in its advanced fiber optic network and complementary advanced technology capabilities; and WHEREAS, Glen F. Post III has always led CenturyLink with a focus on delivering high-quality products and services to its customers, enhancing the communities it serves in a meaningful way, and creating a dynamic work environment for its employees; and WHEREAS, he has maintained a disciplined approach to operations leadership and strategic acquisitions utilizing CenturyLink's strong cash flow and financial strength in driving the long-term shareholder value; and WHEREAS, the 2009 acquisition of Embarq Corporation more than tripled the company's revenues and customer base, and the 2011 acquisition of Qwest more than doubled CenturyLink's size again, transforming CenturyLink into one of the leading communications companies in the United States and a recognized leader in providing networking solutions; and WHEREAS, the 2017 acquisition of Level 3 Communications further transformed CenturyLink, making the company the second largest domestic and the third largest international communications provider to global enterprise customers, this increased scale and combined service offerings and enhanced business focus solidified the company's Page 2 of 3 SCR NO. 68 ENROLLED position as a global network solutions leader; and WHEREAS, under Mr. Post's leadership, the company established and then expanded the CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation that is dedicated to improving the well-being and overall quality of life of people in the communities that CenturyLink serves; and WHEREAS, the foundation is named after CenturyLink's founder, Clarke M. Williams, and the foundation is endowed by CenturyLink and provides funds for numerous community and educational initiatives, including the company's Backpack Buddies Food Drive, which has provided over fifty-six million meals to people in need through local food banks over the past eight years; and WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon men like Glen F. Post III who use their incredible knowledge, talent, and resources to not only improve but forge a better life for our citizens and all our future generations. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby acknowledge the numerous outstanding accomplishments of Glen F. Post III and congratulates him on his much deserved retirement and wishes him much success in all his future endeavors. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Glen F.
