SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 73
BY SENATORS BARROW, COLOMB, HEWITT, MIZELL AND PETERSON AND
REPRESENTATIVES AMEDEE, CARPENTER, DAVIS, EMERSON,
HILFERTY, HILL, HODGES, HORTON, JACKSON, NANCY
LANDRY, MARCELLE, NORTON, SMITH, STOKES, THOMAS
AND WHITE 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Olivia Maria Adams upon being selected as a recipient
of a 2018 High School Women of Excellence Award and a Louisiana Legislative Women's
Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend Olivia Maria Adams upon her receipt of a 2018 Women of Excellence Award
3 from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of High
4 School Women of Excellence and upon being a recipient of a Louisiana Legislative
5 Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
6 WHEREAS, Olivia Maria Adams is the daughter of Donald Adams of Opelousas,
7 Louisiana, and Theresa Ottens of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and resides in Church Point,
8 Louisiana; and
9 WHEREAS, she is a senior at Opelousas Senior High School, where she has
10 maintained all A's throughout her four years and achieved a weighted grade point average
11 of 4.857; and
12 WHEREAS, Olivia has been bestowed numerous awards including the St. Landry
13 Parish Advanced Placement Scholars Award, second place at the Louisiana State Social
14 Studies Fair in Political Science, St. Landry Parish Goalkeeper Most Valuable Player, and
15 first place in Calculus I, Chemistry, and Algebra I at District Rally; and
16 WHEREAS, throughout her years at Opelousas Senior High School, she has been a
17 member of various clubs and sports, including the National Honors Society, Beta Club, 4-H
18 Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, Spanish Club, Health Occupations

1 Students of America club, drama rally and literary rally teams, and has attended Louisiana
2 Girls State where she served as a senator; and
3 WHEREAS, active in high school athletics, Olivia has been a member of the
4 Opelousas Senior High School girls soccer team for four years and served as team captain,
5 as well as a two-year member of the tennis team; and
6 WHEREAS, Olivia is an active member in the community and has participated in
7 numerous service projects and community clubs, including the Opelousas Youth Leadership
8 Council where she serves as secretary, the Special Education Christmas Party at Opelousas
9 High School, and the Freshman Mentoring Program at the Opelousas High School
10 Biomedical Academy; and
11 WHEREAS, she plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in the fall
12 of 2018 after having earned forty hours of college credit through advanced placement, dual
13 enrollment, and Project Lead the Way courses; and
14 WHEREAS, she plans to major in biology, pre-medicine, and minor in physics, and
15 upon earning her bachelor of science degree, Olivia plans to attend the Louisiana State
16 University Health Science Center in Shreveport to study medicine; and
17 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the
18 Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence
19 across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and
20 WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics
21 of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are
22 committed to community service to better society as a whole; and
23 WHEREAS, for 2018, there are two categories for the Women of Excellence
24 Awards: College Women of Excellence and High School Women of Excellence; and
25 WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2018 Women of Excellence Awards are being
26 recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of
27 Excellence Awards & Scholarships Ceremony and Reception on Tuesday, April 24, 2018;
28 and
29 WHEREAS, Olivia has been named a recipient of a 2018 Women of Excellence
30 Award in the category of High School Women of Excellence and is also a recipient of a

1 Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship for her accomplishments
2 and personification of excellence in integrity, character, academics, leadership, and
3 community service; and
4 WHEREAS, Olivia merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for her
5 dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and it is appropriate for the
6 Legislature of Louisiana to commend Olivia upon receipt of a 2018 Women of Excellence
7 Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation and of a Louisiana
8 Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
10 commend Olivia Maria Adams upon receipt of a 2018 Women of Excellence Award from
11 the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of High School
12 Women of Excellence and the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation
13 Scholarship; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular contributions to the
14 citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous
15 pride and honor that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
17 Olivia Maria Adams.
