SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 84

CONDOLENCES.  Expresses sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Dr.
William David Thompson.
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of
3 Dr. William David Thompson of Delhi, Louisiana.
4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the citizens of Louisiana
5 and the members of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the passing of Dr. William
6 David Thompson, at age sixty-six, on January 12, 2018; and 
7 WHEREAS, Dr. Thompson, a lifelong native of Richland Parish, was born on
8 May 11, 1951, in Monroe, Louisiana; and
9 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Coleman Thompson Jr.
10 and Frances Nolan Thompson and brother, Clyde Nolan Thompson; and
11 WHEREAS, he is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia Thompson; children,
12 Jonathon Dhu Thompson and wife Calli, Addison David Thompson and wife Kasey, Ryan
13 Lea Thompson, Brighton Lynn Thompson Robertson and husband Reed, Nolan Randolph
14 Thompson, and Lauren Smith and husband Jeremy; siblings, Robert Dhu Thompson,
15 Michael Lanier Thompson and wife Deborah, Francis Coleman Thompson and wife Marilyn,
16 and Priscilla Thompson Linder and husband Milton; nine grandchildren; and numerous
17 nieces and nephews; and
18 WHEREAS, Dr. Thompson received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State

1 University, completed his medical studies at the Louisiana State University School of
2 Medicine in New Orleans, and furthered his medical education through a family practice
3 residency at Earl K. Long Memorial Hospital in Baton Rouge; and
4 WHEREAS, Dr. Thompson dedicated his life to the care of his patients with a
5 distinguished career that spanned over forty years; and
6 WHEREAS, throughout his medical career he was proudly affiliated with the
7 Richardson Medical Center, where he held positions as Chief of Staff and Chairman of the
8 Board; and 
9 WHEREAS, Dr. Thompson also served many years as the Richland Parish Coroner
10 and as medical director of the Rayville Nursing and Rehabilitation, Rayville Recovery, and
11 LaArk Recovery; and
12 WHEREAS, Dr. Thompson's devotion to his patients was most evident in his tireless
13 work ethic, working nearly every day until his passing; and
14 WHEREAS, Dr. Thompson was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time with
15 his family hunting, fishing, and traveling; and
16 WHEREAS, he was passionate about LSU football and took immense pride in
17 supporting his alma mater and sharing his love for the game with his family each fall; and
18 WHEREAS, most of all he cherished and valued time with his wife, children,
19 grandchildren, and large extended family, as his house was constantly filled with those
20 closest to him celebrating endless birthdays, holidays, and life events; and
21 WHEREAS, Dr. Thompson was a man of faith and long time member of the Rayville
22 United Methodist Church; and 
23 WHEREAS, his dedication to the citizens of Richland Parish earned him widespread
24 respect as a man who embodied integrity, generosity, and professionalism; and
25 WHEREAS, Dr. Thompson was grateful for all the many blessings in his life and felt
26 especially honored to practice medicine and live a life of service; and 
27 WHEREAS, the death of Dr. Thompson has left an abiding void in the many lives
28 he touched throughout his life, and his memory shall remain eternal in the hearts and minds
29 of all those who knew and loved him.
30 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby

1 extend its heartfelt condolences upon the death of Dr. William David Thompson, does
2 hereby record for posterity his giving spirit and talent as a physician, and does hereby extend
3 appreciation for his enduring legacy of service that will continue to inspire a new generation
4 of medical professionals and be a source of great pride and honor for his family, his
5 community, and the state of Louisiana.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
7 family of Dr. William David Thompson.
